This site is meant to be an online record of my search for the best sportboat for our family. I figure this will be the best way to share links, images and video footage found online with myself and my father and to keep all our thoughts organized. We’re looking for a ~20′ sportboat that is ideally raced with a crew of 2, 3 or 4. We really don’t care how many the rules say, we just don’t want to need railmeat.
We also want to be able to single hand the boat easily up to at least 20 knots, if not more. The boat will ideally have a self tacking roller furling jib as well as an asymmetrical spinnaker that has some sort of retrieval system. We know we won’t find all this in one boat, but we’re looking for the least amount of compromises in one boat, and we’d ideally like to keep the budget under $30k new.
The key here is we want something that is very easy and fast to get out on the water with. It should take under 30 minutes from arriving to sailing and this should be possible alone and with a small car. We’re both tired of the time and effort it takes to sail bigger, or more complicated boats. We want a fast, fun and easy boat.
We’d also prefer something that has a one design class here in Newport, but that’s at the bottom of the list as there is some wonderful PHRF racing here on Tuesday nights.
